New version is out, and it’s best to install Hotfix Reporter as well to give it a nice GUI.

Trent’s new thing

Nine Inch Nails has released a new CD and a DVD. The CD comes in two flavors; with the one I now own being the deluxe version, which adds a 2nd CD which entails the closest thing to acoustic I’ve seen from NIN. The DVD comes in the Dolby Digital or DTS flavors. I got the DD flavor, and chose against the DTS, since I couldn’t dynamically change camera angles while watching the live show with the DTS version (evidently due to the larger amount of information coming from the DVD in the DTS version; see the albums web site for info.).

This might cause a DTS vs. DD debate with any of you who are so-called ‘hi-fi’ fans. Well, I gota tell ya, I’ve got DVD’s of both codecs, and I really don’t think DTS is all that. It’s defiantly louder, and if you do a news search on this debate at google.com you’ll find that many experts agree that DTS my have a lower compression ratio, but that it matters more on HOW it is done, and not WHAT codec is used.

Either way, Trent has some amazing stuff here; and being someone who hasn’t seen a live NIN show, I’m now a fan of his live performances. It’s clean, and doesn’t lack the full music spectrum like many live recordings (sounding like someone recorded it with a tape player in the nose-bleed section). If you like NIN, or any of this genre, then the DVD is worth getting, the CD is worth even more, with the Deluxe 2CD version being a nice add-on.

It’s 3am, and we’re still partying it up at the Collsseum playing CS, Return to Castle Wolfinstein, and the demo of Medal Of Honor: Allied Assult. We may just have to load up a MoA server at CP3
